2025 Operational Excellence Forum

An inaugural collaboration & knowledge sharing event

To promote collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing across the Operations and Finance division and across McMaster, the Vice-President, Operations and Finance is launching the first-ever Operational Excellence Forum.

This Forum aims to provide a unified platform for showcasing projects, sharing lessons learned, leveraging resources, and fostering cross-departmental collaboration and collaboration across the entire university.

This year’s theme, “Collaborating Today, Transforming Tomorrow,” emphasizes the value of working together to create lasting impact, ensuring that today’s efforts set the stage for tomorrow’s success.

Call for Proposals

We are calling for proposals that highlight work happening within the Operations and Finance division – both large and small – and across the university that align to the four key pillars of operational excellence staff within the Operations and Finance Division have developed.

  1. Employee Engagement– Empowering and engaging employees through inclusiveness, collaboration, and transparent communication.
  2. Service Excellence– Ensuring responsive, innovative, and community-centered service delivery.
  3. Optimal Resource Usage– Leveraging resources strategically and sustainably with a focus on technology, cost efficiency, and performance monitoring.
  4. Achieving McMaster Goals– Driving community engagement, academic partnerships, and cross-functional collaboration to advance university-wide goals.

Proposal Details

Who Should Submit a Proposal? What are the Proposal Guidelines?

We invite all staff within the Operations and Finance portfolio, as well as those in relevant roles throughout McMaster, to submit a proposal to present at the Forum for consideration.

If your team has developed or implemented projects that contribute to any of the four pillars of operational excellence, we encourage you to share your insights and accomplishments. This is a chance to showcase impactful work and inspire your peers.

Submission Process Submit a Proposal

To submit a proposal, please complete the proposal form by December 9, 2024. Proposals should include a brief description (250-500 words) of your project, the team members involved, and how it aligns with one or more pillars of Operational Excellence and this year’s theme,“Collaborating Today, Transforming Tomorrow.”

The Forum will be held on February 19, 2025, at the Peter George Centre for Living and Learning (PGCLL) on campus. Detailed room locations and schedule information will be shared closer to the date.

Networking opportunities will be built into the schedule, including designated breaks, an exhibit area, and a closing reception. These moments are designed to foster collaboration and the sharing of ideas.

We encourage proposals from all staff within the Operations and Finance portfolio. Submissions that align with the four pillars of operational excellence and showcase innovative ideas, successful projects, or best practices are especially welcome.

Proposals can be submitted via a Microsoft Form. Access the portal submission form.

You will need to include:

  • A title and short description of your session.
  • How your topic aligns with one or more of the four pillars.
  • Key takeaways or outcomes for attendees.

The deadline for submissions is December 6, 2024.

The Forum accepts various formats, including:

  • Presentations: 15-30 minute sessions highlighting a specific project or initiative.
  • Workshops: Interactive sessions focused on skill-building or problem-solving.
  • Posters or Displays: Visual showcases set up in the event space.
  • Panel Discussions: Collaborative sessions featuring multiple speakers sharing insights on a common theme.

Please note these are only guidelines. In your proposal, please indicate your preferred format, even if it is not mentioned above.
