Meet John Bentley – Customs and Traffic Specialist, Financial Affairs
Name: John Bentley
Position: Customs and Traffic Specialist, Financial Affairs
How long have you worked at McMaster? I have been with McMaster in the Department of Customs for 15 years. I have been in this position for about 8 years.
Tell us a little bit about yourself: I will be 46 years old this year. I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I am an avid golfer, camper, fisherman and love being outdoors. I was married on 11/11/11 at 11pm in Las Vegas. I like to experience anything I can as one never knows what tomorrow will bring.
In 3 sentences or less, describe your job and the best part of your job? I oversee the Import/Export of goods for McMaster University. It is exciting when I can get a researcher their samples without delay so they can continue their valuable work without interruption. I like saving all parties money when it comes to Logistics.
Name someone you work with that you admire and why: I cannot name one. I deal with almost every researcher at McMaster and I admire them all. The research being done has the possibility of benefiting the world. One could find the cure for cancer while the next creates a new energy efficient machine that no longer needs carbon fuel or any other source of energy that taxes our planet. I look at what I do as saving time and money so the researcher can focus more on their work and not have to worry about how to get a shipment from A to B.
Name something you’ve been involved in at McMaster that you are particularly proud of: Being involved with Procurement and Accounts Payable. The level of service both departments offer the University is excellent. Any party on campus can reach out for assistance and get answers in a very timely and efficient manner. While this is not my accomplishment, it is something I am very happy to be a part of.
