Meet Wil Stuart – Locksmith – Facility Services

Position: Locksmith – Facility Services

How long have you worked at McMaster? I have been the locksmith for about 9 years, and overall, I have worked for McMaster for over 13 years.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: I’m a single father of one 17 year-old son. I love kayaking, motorcycling, and I have a small plant obsession.

In 3 sentences or less, describe your job and the best part of your job. The best part of my job is ensuring peoples safety and security, where they live and where they work.

Name someone you work with that you admire and why. I am actually blessed to work with so many amazing individuals that I could not possibly narrow it down to just one. Doug Weeks has inspired my son and I to become regular blood donors. Through kindness and willingness to help everyone showing amazing selflessness, Ben Spark shows amazing compassion, empathy, kindness and great leadership, to name a couple. We at McMaster are blessed to work with a thousand amazing individuals.

Name something you’ve been involved in at McMaster that you are particularly proud of. I’m very proud of the work I am privileged to perform on a daily basis. Ensuring peoples safety and security is an amazing part of my job. Mapping out, planning, producing, and installing every lock for every door in new builds such as 10 Bay, Peter George, and L.R. Wilson have been my favorite points of pride throughout my career.

In my career I have answered and responded to more than 500 off-hour call-ins to ensure this.

What is a piece of advice you would give to someone embarking on their career at McMaster University? Open yourself to all available avenues of opportunity and growth at McMaster. It truly is a fantastic place to work.
