Position: Strategic Projects Manager, Budgeting Services in Financial Affairs

How long have you worked at McMaster? I have been in this position for a year. I have been at McMaster for almost 10 years. I started in UTS as part of the Mosaic team, specifically working on the implementation of Hyperion.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: I’m a curious, lifelong learner. I love to learn about technology, culture, social sciences, data sciences and all forms of art. I’m an advocate of diversity and inclusion who has been blessed to live and work in an accepting and inclusive environment. I love to teach and share my knowledge with those around me.

In 3 sentences or less, describe your job and the best part of your job? I lead strategic budgeting projects that streamline processes, integrate systems and ensure accuracy. I provide subject matter expertise to help administrative staff in preparing their budgets and in understanding their area’s operating financial performance.

What is your favourite quote and why? I live by this quote from the Bible: “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you.” Matthew 7:7

I think it talks to being proactive instead of reactive; it also speaks to being vulnerable and getting help when we need it as well as having faith that life will always put wonderful human beings in our path.

Tell us about a mentor that you’ve had and how they supported your career development? Or how you’ve mentored someone and supported their development? Lou Mitton has been my mentor and unconditional support since I started at McMaster. I admire her for her integrity, fairness, sense of humour and incredible memory. She has given me many opportunities to develop my career, supported me advancing my studies and is always open to discussing any concerns or new challenges I may have.
